EDUCATION CLASS

NAMI Family-to-Family

NAMI Family-to-Family is a free, eight-session educational program for family members, significant others, and friends of people living with a mental health condition. It’s taught by trained NAMI family members who have been there themselves, and it combines presentations, discussion, and interactive exercises.

Family-to-Family gives you more than information. You’ll gain practical skills for supporting the person you love while taking care of your own well-being, and you’ll find out you’re not alone. Recovery is a journey, and there is hope.

About this program

Family-to-Family is a designated evidence-based program by SAMHSA. Research shows it significantly improves the coping and problem-solving abilities of the people closest to someone with a mental health condition. More than 300,000 people have completed it nationwide.

In this program, “family” is understood broadly — parents, siblings, spouses, adult children, partners, and close friends are all welcome. Whether supporting a loved one is new to you or something you’ve navigated for years, the class offers greater understanding, practical skills, and a supportive community.

What you'll learn

Who this is for

Family-to-Family is for adult family members, partners, and friends of people with mental health conditions. It is not designed for people living with a condition themselves — our NAMI Peer-to-Peer class is the equivalent program for individuals.

What participants say

“The course gave me hope that it will be okay, that I am not alone, and reduced a lot of the shame, guilt, and hopelessness I had been feeling.”

  — Family-to-Family participant

“Before I took the course, I felt alone and overwhelmed. By taking this class, I met others going through the same things and learned about resources I never knew existed.”

  — Family-to-Family participant
