EDUCATION CLASS
NAMI Provider
NAMI Provider is a class for mental health professionals and the staff who work directly with people living with mental health conditions. It’s designed to expand participants’ compassion for the individuals and families they serve, and to promote a collaborative, recovery-oriented model of care.
The program is presented by a trained team that includes a person living in recovery with a mental health condition, a family member of someone with a condition, and a mental health professional — so participants hear directly from every perspective in the care relationship.
About this program
Provider gives frontline staff a subjective, firsthand view of what individuals and families experience on the journey through mental illness and recovery. The goal is care that is more collaborative, more empathetic, and more effective — care that involves the person, their family, and their providers together.
What the course covers
- The emotional stages people and families move through on the way to recovery
- A fresh understanding of and empathy for clients' lived experience, especially during treatment
- The family's perspective, and why it matters to outcomes
- Working collaboratively with individuals and their families
- Confidentiality and recovery as a conscious, supported choice
Who this is for
Provider is for employees of health care organizations who work directly with people experiencing mental health conditions — nurses, social workers, direct-care workers, therapists, case managers, peer specialists, crisis workers, and other staff.
